Community Giving, Philanthropy, & Volunteering

Cousins’ philosophy regarding the importance of community giving and engagement is perhaps best exemplified by the success of our founder, Tom Cousins, and the East Lake Foundation in transforming the East Lake neighborhood in Atlanta and in creating new opportunities for the families in that community.  The efforts of the East Lake Foundation and Tom continue today, particularly through the support of the Charles R. Drew Charter School, a very successful public charter school serving the East Lake community and more than 1,200 students in Pre-K through ninth grade.

We remain committed to the importance of community involvement through our company charitable efforts that include substantial engagement in the United Way annual campaigns for Metropolitan Atlanta.  In addition, recognizing that employee involvement needs to be local for the greatest impact, we sponsor volunteer and giving opportunities for all of our employees.  In Atlanta, we had tremendous employee participation in a recent “planting day” along the Atlanta Beltline with Trees Atlanta.

In each of the last three years, through a combination of our private foundation and the voluntary direct giving by our employees, Cousins has contributed an average of more than $400,000 annually to local charities within our communities, including more than $100,000 annually to United Way of Greater Atlanta.
